hmm, after getting em tightend up it seems the other two on the left hand side also are gonna need hand fitting. the holes are about half a millimeter lower than they need to be.
i did the other one by drilling out the hole diameter to 6.3mm.. gave it enough play to fit properly
guess i'll give that a shot with the other two also.. might be enough slop to close up that gap. if not i could shim the rest of the distance with foil

>>43drilled out..
one came within acceptable limits. the other…… not so much
gonna sit down for a while and think about what to do
i have one more block (5 total), so i could try to see if that last one fits better than this one, i guess. if that doesn't work i'll just think about it for a bit
No.45
last block wasn't even close enough to try, so i just oversized the holes to 6.4mm and it all fits well. i hate handfitting tho. i have 1 set with 6mm holes, 2 with 6.3mm holes, and 1 with 6.4mm holes
but as long as it works wtever

Have you made a metal cut out of a dick yet?

fucked up drilling the x plate… drilled oversize, as i've done multiple times since starting this. what the fuck is wrong with me. happen to have quarter inch 1018 round stock lying around. think i'll plug and weld it. idk

oh man forgot about this thread
progress still slow but ongoing
i have a jig for drilling the carriage holes for the y axis plate made, i just need to print it and drill it
my Z axis rails are half done, another hour or two to get the other one ailigned, pecked, drilled and tapped.
then i'll make a jig for the Z axis plate and i can assemble everything up until that point for a good mockup.
in order after that:
- calibrate all axis alignment
- create ballscrew to plate attachment
- install ballscrews
- add motors and motor mounts
- add riser rail bracing
- weld x axis plate gussets
- cast epoxy granite base
- install x axis rails
then everything up until now just slaps on top of my x axis carriages and the real fun (software and electronic setup) begins

ok i WAS going to 3d print a jig, but the rapid prototyping lab is a good ol boys faggot club and they never honored my print request.
gonna take inspiration from the preeminent comic book author of this century, Mr CWC and make one out of CRAYOLA MODEL MAGIC
No.249
oh and pics above are the railed up X plate. after i drill the holes from this jig im making from my CRAYOLA MODEL MAGIC, thats the plate thats gonna get it. then i'll do the Z plate after

ive got the first holes drilled for the ballscrew… its incredible how using handtools you have almost no control over where that drill bit goes when it bites into the metal
holes are about a millimeter off where i wanted them, but i think theres enough slack to ensure i can align them properly.
