I don't even use the handheld mode anyway tbh. As gay and overpriced as Nintendo is these days they seem to be the only company that makes a lot of local multiplayer games so I always end up getting their consoles. On the other consoles everything is online focused because zoomers are all friendless autists, and I'd rather play single player stuff on PC.

the SNES actually had a noticeable technological leap from the NES, just from a superficial consumer perspective the games were graphically more impressive and newer concepts were being tried with the hardware and sound design, meanwhile outside of the stupid controller scheme the difference between wii and wii u games wasn't as impactful
plus the 80s/90s was a time when you could just have a handful of magazines and tv commercials along with word of mouth to generate hype for you while today you have to pay tons of influencers to make multiple shitty videos full of jump cuts every 2 seconds to even keep people's attention long enough to sell them on even one product because their target demographics have their dopamine receptors burnt out before they're even in middle school

game boy had fun vidya, gay gear was all gimmicks. color screen don't help much if the thing is bulky and the games aren't fun, meanwhile game boy could be slapped together and had hueg margins. sega was juggling like six consoles at any given moment (genesis, game gear, sega cd, 32x, nomad, saturn) and consumers didn't know wtf to buy
there was a big leak of internal marketing info a couple years ago that really put into perspective how fucked they were

Majority of the games on PS5 are also available on PS4 partly because for some reason making games take like 5 years so they likely started out developing on PS4. That being said, the few exclusives that do exist like Spider-Man 2 don't look too different from remastered ps4 games, except maybe performing better at 1440p/60fps than 1080p/30fps. Comparing 8th and 9th gen, the spec upgrades pretty much made games smoother to run incrementally than being full blown upgrades. I skipped the 8th gen but bought a Ps5 and have been playing all the 8th gen games I missed out on a systen that runs the games better so I'm content with it.
